Facade Improvement and Building Restoration Grant (FIBRG)
OVERVIEW
Facade improvement and building rehabilitation programs protect historic assets while enhancing the overall look and feel of an area. These upgrades encourage economic reinvestment, strengthen locally owned businesses, keep more dollars circulating within the community, and attract new businesses and shoppers.
In the North 24th Street BID area, most buildings are classified by the Douglas County Assessor as being in fair or poor condition. Recognizing this challenge, the North 24th Street BID first envisioned a building restoration program in 2020. The need for such a program was later affirmed in the City of Omaha's 2022 Forever North Planning Study strategy recommendations. To move the effort forward, the BID applied for the North & South Omaha Recovery Grant (NSORG) and was awarded $2 million in 2024 to implement the progam.
